Based on more than 122 million votes cast by viewers, the 17-year-old North Carolina native defeats Lauren Alaina in the final showdown of the singing contest.

AceShowbiz - Americans have made their choice for the winner of "American Idol" season 10. On Wednesday's (May 25) final result show, Scotty McCreery was crowned the champion of the FOX reality show, beating out the other contender Lauren Alaina. "Thank you so much," he shouted as the confetti was showering him.

Interestingly, a few hours before the result was officially unveiled, the Drudge Report had correctly mentioned Scotty as the winner. The post leaked that the 17-year-old guy would beat Lauren almost two-to-one.

On the show, top 13 contestants of this season took the stage to sang Lady GaGa's "Born this Way", dressing in all-white outfits. The dance queen also made a performance that night, catering the audience with "The Edge of Glory".

Beyonce Knowles took the stage to make live performance of her new single "1+1". She previously joined the ladies of "Idol" top 13 who performed a medley of her songs. Other musical guests that night included Bono and The Edge, who performed a number from "Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark", and Marc Anthony.

Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Jack Black, Tony Bennett, Judas Priest, Kirk Franklin and Gladys Knight also made collaborations with the "Idol" finalists. Meanwhile, Steven Tyler rocked out with Aerosmith's "Dream On" before Ryan Seacrest announced the result.
