The 2008 winner of 'American Idol' has gone missing on the beach in this Nigel Dick-directed music video, prompting speculation that he might have drowned.

AceShowbiz - David Cook has unveiled music video for his new single "The Last Goodbye". In this clip, he has the whole city of California thinking that he might be dead. His jacket, bag and wallet are found on shore, leading to a speculation that he has drowned. Oblivious to people's concern about his well-being, he stays in his room the whole day after returning from the beach.

The music video is directed by Nigel Dick (Britney Spears, Oasis, Nickelback), and was shot in Malibu earlier this month. "It would have been easy to just set the band up and do a broody performance video," Cook explained to EW. "But I wanted to do something a little more fun."

The concept of going AWOL includes a story of the "American Idol" graduate making a "David Cook Feared Drowned" headline on local paper. "I'm going to frame it and hang it in the house," he said of the fake newspaper. "It's probably one of the best perks or gifts I've ever gotten from this whole experience."

Co-written by Cook with the help from OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder, "The Last Goodbye" is listed among new materials in his new album "This Loud Morning" which is due in the U.S. on June 28. The track comes from production hands of Matt Serletic, and was showcased for the very first time on "American Idol" result show on Thursday, April 21.

This coming Tuesday, May 24, Cook will return to the singing competition for a live performance of Simple Minds' 1985 smash hit "Don't You (Forget About Me)" which was re-recorded as this season's farewell song. "It was a lot of fun to record. We got Kenny Aronoff on drums and Neal came in and helped cut some of the guitars," he once said.
