AceShowbiz - A movie revolving around former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln was premiered at Ford Theater, Washington D.C. on Sunday, April 10. "The Conspirator" tells a fictional story in the aftermath of Lincoln's assassination where seven men and one woman are arrested and charged with conspiring to kill the President, Vice President, and Secretary of State.
Director Robert Redford said at the screening, "The movie was inspired by telling a story that nobody knew about, tied to an event that everybody knows about." Robin Wright Penn's Mary Surratt was the lone woman charged for owning the house where John Wilkes Booth, and others met and planned the simultaneous attacks.
Although it has not been picked up for a wide release, the drama thriller is supported by a number of high-caliber stars such as James McAvoy, Justin Long, Evan Rachel Wood, Tom Wilkinson, Kevin Kline and Alexis Bledel. On a budget of $20 million, the film was first shown at the Toronto International Film Festival last year.
In September 2010, the movie was picked up for theatrical distribution by Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions. It is now slated to hit limited theaters in the U.S. on April 15.
