'Hop' Leaps to Top Box Office

The family film rules the chart by gaining $38.12 million, while 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules' drops to number four with $10.2 million.

AceShowbiz - "Hop" jumps to the first rank of this weekend's North American box office. Being predicted to open in the $25 million range, the comedy film gains better than expected. The Universal Pictures film, budgeted for about $63 million, has obtained $37.5 million in ticket sales for its first week.

Landing in the second place is Duncan Jones-directed "Source Code". The movie, which features the likes of Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Monaghan, has done well by gaining $14.8 million from 2,961 theaters, after costing around $32 million to produce.

Meanwhile, another new film "Insidious" lands in the third place for this week's box office. Reportedly being produced with less than $1.5 million, the horror film collects $13.3 million. The FilmDistrict movie also allegedly earns millions in international pre-sales.

Last-week champion "Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules" falls to fourth with $10 million. At the same time, Neil Burger-directed "Limitless" also drops to number five. The thriller-action movie only gains $9.3 million this week, or drops 38.2|percent| from last week's cume.
