Following the report that the show won't go beyond season 3, HBO's representative clarified that they are not continuing the show in its previous format.

AceShowbiz - Despite winning an Emmy and a Golden Globe, "In Treatment" could not save itself from the chopping block. HBO has just cut the drama show from its programming due to declining rating. The first season was watched by more than 446,000 viewers but by season 3 finale, the number went down to 279,000 viewers.
However, HBO is not giving up on the show completely. "It's true that we have no plans to continue with 'In Treatment' as previously formatted," an HBO spokesperson said. "However, we are in continued conversations with the executive producers to find another way to continue telling these rich stories."
Based on an Israeli series, "In Treatment" follows psychoanalyst Paul Weston (Gabriel Byrne) through his week, capturing a session each night with his patients before concluding each Friday in the office of Paul's own therapist, Gina. Among Paul's patients were characters played by Amy Ryan, Debra Winger and Blair Underwood.
In its first season, the show ran as a half-hour drama for five nights a week. But the format did not work well, so they changed it to two back-to-back episodes running two days a week.
