Zack Snyder, the director of 'The Man of Steel', has announced that the 36-year-old actress has landed the role in the movie, saying '...I just felt she was perfect for it.'

AceShowbiz - Amy Adams has been tapped to play Lois Lane in the new "Superman" reboot. On Sunday, March 27, the director of the forthcoming movie, Zack Snyder, has made the Charlene Fleming of "The Fighter" an official star of the film.

Speaking in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Synder expressed his excitement about the choice. "Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about," so he said. "So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful."

The director, who informed Adams via a phone call while promoting his "Sucker Punch" in Paris, believes the "Doubt" beauty will make the film successful. He told Los Angeles Times, "There was a big, giant search for Lois. For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it."

"It goes back to what I've said about Superman and making him really understandable for today," he continued. "What's important to us is making him relevant and real and making him empathetic to today's audience so that we understand the decisions he makes. That applies to Lois as well. She has to be in the same universe as him [in tone and substance]."

Adams has earned an Oscar nomination for her work in "The Fighter". Her other notable credits include "Julie & Julia", "Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian", and "Enchanted". She will be seen in "The Muppets", playing Mary.

In the revival of "Superman" film, Adams will star as a journalist whom Henry Cavill's Clark Kent a.ka. Superman falls in love with. Meanwhile, Diane Lane will play Clark's adoptive mother, Martha Kent, and Kevin Costner will star as Jonathan Kent.

The upcoming film, tentatively called "The Man of Steel", is expected to hit U.S. theaters in December 2012. David S. Goyer provides the script and Christopher Nolan serves as producer. The principal photography is expected to be kicked off in June. The movie is going to be a joint project by Warner Bros. and Legendary Picture.
