While major networks are running extensive coverage of the major natural disaster, the cable and its sister network are preparing a documentary which includes the aftermath.

AceShowbiz - There will be a one-hour program documenting the major earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan on Friday, March 11 afternoon. Discovery and its sister network Science Channel are the first to order specials with the reserved title of "Anatomy of a Disaster".

Set to air in early April in both networks, the special will include unprecedented footage of the 8.9 magnitude earthquake, resulting tsunami, the ripple effect which can be found as far away as Oregon and California, the aftermath and response efforts around the world.

"On the strength of our institutional reach and relationships, Discovery Channel and Science Channel will offer a one-of-a-kind look into today's epic natural tragedy," said Clark Bunting, president and GM of Discovery Channel. " 'Anatomy of a Disaster' will depict a race against time, from the first wave to hit Sendai, to acts of incredible heroism still yet to occur."

On top of this special, major networks have also run programs related to the Japan tragedy. ABC dedicated its primetime, "20/20" and "Nightline" to the coverage. NBC began with "NBC Nightly New With Brian Williams" and continued with "Dateline". Meanwhile, CBS offers extensive coverage on "CBS Evening News With Katie Couric" and "The Early Show".
