The image gives a clearer look at the movie's villain, played by Hugo Weaving, as he is featured from waist up.

AceShowbiz - The first official picture of Red Skull, who is the real man behind Johann Schmidt's human mask, has landed online via Entertainment Weekly. It gives a better look at the villainous character as he is pictured from waist up and wearing a black leather coat completed with a belt which features Hydra symbol.

Red Skull has previously been previewed briefly in "Captain America: The First Avenger" TV spot that was aired during Super Bowl. Meanwhile, Hugo Weaving's Schmidt in his human mask has graced some other "Captain America" images.

In an interview with EW, director Joe Johnston reveals he did not watch the original 1990 "Captain America" film to make any references for his own version. "No, no ... It's something they chose to not make a big deal about. The guys at Marvel said, 'Nah don't even bother. It's so unlike anything we're doing with the character now.' " Asked if he would watch it just to avoid making the same mistakes, he says, "No, we're perfectly capable of making our own mistakes!"

"Captain America" revolves around Steve Rogers, "a scrawny lad who desperately wants to fight Nazis for his country but can't because he's been deemed physically unfit." He then volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America and tries to fit in his new image.

Chris Evans is cast as the lead actor, Hayley Atwell plays his love interest Peggy Carter, and Sebastian Stan portrays his sidekick Bucky Barnes. The superhero movie will open wide in U.S. theaters on July 22, while its first trailer is reported to be attached to "Battle: Los Angeles" which hits theaters Friday, March 11.
