Michael Phelps is up for Favorite Male Athlete, and Serena Williams is nominated for Favorite Female Athlete.

AceShowbiz - The battle to win Nickelodeon's 24th Annual Kids' Choice Awards has begun. In sport, record-breaking Olympian swimmer Michael Phelps is up for Favorite Male Athlete along with footballer Peyton Manning, NBA player Shaquille O'Neal, and snowboarder/skateboarder Shaun White.

Tennis players Serena Williams and Venus Williams, meanwhile, are both nominated for Favorite Female Athlete. The siblings are going to face-to-face with two other competitors; auto racing driver Danica Patrick and ski racer Lindsey Vonn.

In literature, "Diary of Wimpy Kid" series is competing for Favorite Book with "Dork Diaries", "Vampire Academy" series and "Witch and Wizard" series. Favorite Video Game has "Just Dance 2", "Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem", "Need for Speed: Hot Purs" and "Super Mario Galaxy 2" as contenders.

2011 Kids' Choice Awards will take place in Los Angeles and air live on Saturday, April 2, at 8 P.M. Jack Black, who is coincidentally nominated for Favorite Actor, will return as a host for a third time. Winners for all categories, including music, TV and movie, can be voted on Nickelodeon official site beginning March 7.
