Growing apart after nearly three years of marriage, the celebrity couple has 'made the difficult decision to file for divorce' and is now working on custody agreement for their son Bronx.

AceShowbiz - Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz have decided to call it quits. The mother of one filed for divorce from the Fall Out Boy 31-year-old bassist on Tuesday, February 8 in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason of the split.

"After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce," they released a joint statement. "We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our No. 1 priority. We ask that everyone honor our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives."

According to TMZ, Ashlee, 26, "really wanted out" of the marriage because "it's really all about Pete's erratic behavior." A source close to Pete added, "After Bronx was born Ashlee made a conscious decision to get out of the business, but Pete's heart was in music so he kept touring and that became a big issue in their relationship."

While it's not clear what kind of "erratic behavior" Ashlee allegedly couldn't take it anymore, another insider told different story to Us magazine. The publication claimed it was Pete who's "getting fed up" with Ashlee since she was "reverting to drinking and going out, because she is sick and tired of her life."

The insider explained more, "Ashlee loves Bronx but jumped into marriage and having a baby too quickly." She used alcohol "an outlet for her unhappiness" which added fuel to their problem as a couple. With those issues standing in their way, "they feel they got trapped in a situation they were too young for."

However, his camp dodged those rumors insisting Ashlee and Pete just grew apart. Friends of both also agree there was no third party involved. "It's very amicable. They're on very friendly terms and speaking - it's fine," a source told People. "They've just grown apart. They've been growing apart for quite some time."

Ashlee was romantically linked to Pete in late 2006, and made their union official in May 2008 when she was 3-months pregnant with son Bronx Mowgli. Pete, who has bipolar disorder, has since credited his marriage and family to help him settle down, saying in a 2009 interview "While I'll always be bipolar, I find it easier to deal with now. With marriage and fatherhood, I've finally found two fixed points in my life. They've taught me patience."

Even now after the divorce papers were filed in the court, the Fall Out Boy bassist, who has formed another project called Black Cards, still praises Ashlee. Just earlier this week, he took it to his Twitter to write, "Dont forget 2 notice-when i look into the lil dudes eyes & smile, the way he loves. I realize @ashsimpsonwentz is a good moma + so much more."

Ashlee is seeking joint legal custody and primary physical custody of two-year-old Bronx. She is additionally asking for spousal and child support. The songstress who goes by the name Ashlee Simpson-Wentz after tying the knot wants the court to restore her name to Ashlee Nicole Simpson as well. She is represented by famed divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, and Pete recruits Stacy Phillips as his lawyer. The estranged couple reportedly have no prenuptial agreement.
