Gearing up for the production of "The Avengers" which reportedly will start this April, Marvel Studios is said looking for an actress to fill one of the final roles. Some names which have surfaced in the contention are Morena Baccarin, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jessica Lucas and Cobie Smulders.

The girls on the shortlist are unveiled by The Hollywood Reporter after Samuel L. Jackson said on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" on Wednesday, February 2, "I gotta screen test, like, five actresses on Friday. They have this new character that's my sidekick that's with me all the time." Also on the talk show, the actor confirmed that he will reprise his role as Nick Fury on "Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger".

The foursome is reportedly still negotiating their test deals, which include a nine-picture option. Previous rumors said the role would be Janet van Dyne aka the Wasp who is a member of Avengers team, but Marvel declined to comment.

Morena Baccarin stars in TV series "V" and once worked with "The Avengers" director Joss Whedon on "Firefly". Mary Elizabeth Winstead played Ramona Flowers in "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" and lands role in upcoming "The Thing" remake. Jessica Lucas appeared on "Melrose Place" and will be next seen in "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son". Meanwhile, Cobie Smulders is famous for her role on "How I Met Your Mother".

"The Avengers" will bring together the superhero team of Marvel Comics characters for the first time ever as they are forced to band together to battle the biggest foe they've ever faced. Beside Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo and Clark Gregg have also been officially announced as the cast members.

May 4, 2012 will be the day when this action superhero film hits U.S. theaters.
