'Vampire Diaries' Sexy Ad Asks 'Got Wood?'

After telling viewers to 'Catch VD' and creates controversy for sending two different signals, the marketing department releases a bolder one.

AceShowbiz - "The Vampire Diaries" marketing team knows well that sex sells. In the days leading to the second season return, the show released two promos with the slogans "Catch VD" and "Got Wood?". For those who are not familiar with the show or don't bother to think twice, these catchphrases may sound racy.

"Catch VD", if not already figured out, stands for "Catch Vampire Diaries". It appears not only in the TV spots but also on a Billboard erected in Times Square next to ads for The Disney Store. Problem is, for people who live in the '80s and '90s, it also stands for "Venereal Disease" which youngsters now recognize as STD.

This double meaning is apparently intended because a longer TV spot was released a day later, emphasizing on the sex scenes and bearing the slogan "Got Wood?". Who knew the "wood" stands for the literal tool used to stab vampires in the heart.

"VD simply stands for 'Vampire Diaries', and anyone who thinks otherwise should probably get themselves checked out," said a spokesperson of The CW. The network is apparently playing it safe since Parents TV Council had slammed them in the past for "Gossip Girl" use of OMFG.

"Vampire Diaries" returns Thursday, January 27 night.
