The actress is cross-dressing to portray a woman who hides her true identity under man's clothes and behavior to escape poverty.

AceShowbiz - Glenn Close has undergone a transformation for her upcoming movie "Albert Nobbs". The 63-year-old star was hardly recognized when she was recently spotted on the set in Dublin, Ireland as her blonde hair is darker and shorter and her curve is hidden under male vintage suit.

In the film, Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning actress Close plays an English woman who disguises herself as a male so she could land a job as a butler in 19th century Ireland, when woman with no husband or family and without work would face a bleak life of poverty and loneliness, taking the name of Albert. After hiding the secret for years, Albert is inspired to try and escape the false life she has created for herself.

She gathers her nerves to court beautiful, saucy young maid Helen in whom she thinks she's found a soul-mate - but Helen's eye is on a new arrival: handsome, bad-boy Joe, the new handy-man! As Albert dares to hope that she might one day live a normal life, we catch a glimpse of a free-spirited woman who is caught in the wrong time.

"I believe in this story and its potential to take everyone on a sensuous, funny, heart-breaking, wildly unexpected ride," Close said about the movie which is based on a short story by Irish novelist George Moore. She additionally writes the script alongside Istvan Szabo and John Banville, and teams up with Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn to produce it.

Joining as cast members are Aaron Johnson and Mia Wasikowska who step in to replace Orlando Bloom and Amanda Seyfried after they both pulled out of the project. The likes of Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and Michael Gambon also are also cast in "Albert Nobbs", which is being shot under the direction of Rodrigo Garcia.

No release date has been set for the independent drama film.
