Aaron Johnson, Nicholas Hoult Are on Bryan Singer's Shortlist of 'Jack the Giant Killer'

Aneurin Barnard is also up for the male lead role, while Jamie Campbell Bower who was on the list cannot join the test since he broke his ankle.

Bryan Singer is lining up actors to take the lead roles in "Jack the Giant Killer". The Hollywood Reporter (THR) says the helmer and New Line Cinema are planning to hold tests in London within the next two weeks in search of the male and female leads, but no date has been set yet as schedules are still being worked out.

According to the site, , and are contenders to take the main part of a young farmer. Johnson, who has been rumored for "Jack" before in October, is best known for his role in "". "" star Hoult recently nabbed a role in "", while relatively unknown Barnard appeared in "" but is best known for West End production of "Spring Awakening".

"" actor was reportedly also on the list for the coveted part. However, the young Brit who appears as Gellert Grindelwald in "" broke his ankle and thus he cannot join the test.

As for the female lead, THR reports , and are up to be a kidnapped princess. Australian actress Kane was featured in popular soap "Neighbours", Collins will soon be seen in "" and has wrapped "" with , while Temple has completed production on Paul W.S. Anderson's "".

"Jack the Giant Killer" has a script written by Christopher McQuarrie and is set in motion when a princess is kidnapped, threatening a long-standing peace between men and giants. A young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants' kingdom in hopes of rescuing her. Principal photography for the fantasy film is expected to start in 2011.
