While the 'Departed' actor is in final negotiations to join the reboot project, Field is still in early talks to portray another adult figure who raised Peter.

AceShowbiz - Slowly but sure, Columbia Pictures starts to gather Peter Parker's family for their new "Spider-Man" film. According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), the studio has cast Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben and the negotiations are now in final stage.
Soon, Peter is expected to get his aunt too since THR says Sally Field is in early talks to portray Aunt May. Together, Uncle Ben and Aunt May raised Peter. As known from the comics and Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man", Uncle Ben dies early in the story at the hands of a burglar. Aunt May, meanwhile, will keep becoming key supporting character in Peter's life as she is the only family he has.
This untitled Spider-Man reboot will be directed by Marc Webb and has Andrew Garfield taking the title character. Emma Stone is tapped to portray Gwen Stacy, the love interest of Peter Parker, while Rhys Ifans is cast as an unnamed villain.
Principal photography for the action superhero film is planned to begin in December this year for a scheduled July 3, 2012 release in the U.S.
Martin Sheen was last seen in "Love Happens" starring Aaron Eckhart and Jennifer Aniston, as well as in "Imagine That" featuring Eddie Murphy. He also stars in "The Way" which is directed by son Emilio Estevez and is currently selling at American Film Market.
As for Sally Field, she landed roles in 2003 "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde" and 2006 indie drama "Two Weeks". The 53-year-old actress is currently starring on TV series "Brothers & Sisters".
