James Cameron Could Direct Angelina Jolie in 'Cleopatra'
Movie

There are words on the street that the 'Avatar' helmer is currently in talks to take the helming duty for Sony's film in which the actress is attached to star.

AceShowbiz - Rumor has it, James Cameron and Sony Pictures Entertainment "are exploring the very real possibility" that he will serve behind the lens for "Cleopatra". If the news broken by Deadline Hollywood is indeed real and the deal is sealed, the "Avatar" filmmaker could direct Angelina Jolie which is reportedly attached to take the title role.

Though the 35-year-beauty's involvement in the project has not been officially announced yet, the site says Jolie is "anxious" to make the movie. Additionally, it is said that Sony Pictures Entertainment Co-Chair Amy Pascal wants to own the Angelina Jolie franchise like it owns the franchises of Adam Sandler and Will Smith because "she's a real star who can open a movie by herself" and "she knows she was born to play this part" because it's the "greatest female heroine" that ever lived.

Furthermore, Pascal reportedly decided to fast-track the PG-13 and 3D film project after screenwriter Bran Helgeland turned in a script which is described as a "brilliant script deserving of epic treatment" all about "what the Romans took from Egypt". He is eying a start date in 2011, Deadline further claims.

"Cleopatra", which will be produced by Scott Rudin, is based on Stacy Schiff's book entitled "Cleopatra: A Life". It explores Cleopatra's lethal political struggle with her brother, her romance with Julius Caesar, her nine-year affair with Mark Antony and her demise.

Angelina Jolie is currently filming a Bosnian war love story which will be her directorial debut. Meanwhile, James Cameron is set to produce "Fantastic Voyage" before returning to the directing seat of "Avatar" sequel.
