Thousand of people came in various superhero costumes at the gathering in Los Angeles which broke the Guinness Book of World Record.

AceShowbiz - Exactly 1,580 superhero wannabes invaded Live Nokia Plaza in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 2. They all supported the largest gathering of costumed crime-fighters, which broke the Guinness Book of World Records figure of 1,500, held by DreamWorks Animation.

The gathering was part of promotional events for DreamWorks' upcoming release "Megamind". Thus, the movie's two characters Megamind and Metro Man were present. Will Ferrell, who lends his voice for the title character, also appeared though without a superhero costume.

Coming in a shirt topped with a gray suit, he claimed that he dressed like "hero" Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor. On his favorites from the crowd, Ferrell said, "I think I saw a (good) Captain America out there, and the Chef from 'South Park'. Is that really a superhero? I don't know. But that was a good costume."

The actor took the mic on the stage and joked, "Everyone in a Spider-Man outfit wins a NEW CAR!!!" before quickly adding, "No? ... No, OK. I was mistaken." Additionally, he playfully challenged everyone to set another record by remaining in-costume through October until the November 5 release of "Megamind". "There's no way to monitor it. So it will have to be the honor system," he said as quoted by USA Today.

"Megamind" is a story of super villain Megamind who accidentally kills his archrival Metro Man. Losing his oomph, the villain creates new superhero rival Titan. Unfortunately for him and the world, the new hero wants to be a super villain too. The new villain begins his rampage, and Megamind sets out to stop him, beginning a path to redemption in the process.
