With an estimated $19 million opening gross, the 'Wall Street' sequel beats another newcomer 'Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole' which boasts its 3-D visuals.

AceShowbiz - Just like the spirit of its main character Gordon Gekko, "greed is good" for "Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps". The movie rakes in $19 million on its debut weekend, placing itself on the top of North American Box Office. It also becomes the best opener for director Oliver Stone, passing the $18.7 million obtained by his 2006 "World Trade Center".
This follow-up to 1987 "Wall Street" is strongest among older audiences, with moviegoers over the age of 30 comprising two-thirds of ticket-holders. The crime drama once raised doubt after it was pushed back from its initial release date but 20th Century Fox apparently had a good reason for that, believing that a release in an autumnal season is more hospitable to adult fare.
On number two there is "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole" which might not meet Warner Bros.' expectation. Made with an estimated $80 million budget, the animation by director Zack Snyder only collects $16.1 million despite the advantage of higher 3-D ticket prices.
Last week champion "The Town", meanwhile, has a strong second weekend. The Ben Affleck-directed movie drops a modest 34.5|percent| in ticket sales, adding $15.6 million to its domestic revenue and sitting on the third place. "Easy A" follows on number four with $10.6 million. The teen comedy also suffers a slight decline of 40.2|percent|.
On the other hand, another drama comedy "You Again" is not as successful as "Easy A". Supported with all-star female cast like Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis and Betty White, the women-at-war themed film debuts on number five with $8.4 million.
