A Look Into HBO's 'My Trip to Al-Qaeda' Through Pics and Trailer

September 4, 2010 (7:34 am) GMT
To mark nine years after World Trade Center was wiped out in a terrorism act, HBO will air a documentary that follows one's journey into modern terrorism.

HBO, the home to Emmy Awards-winning telepics "" and "", will soon debut its latest project called "My Trip to Al-Qaeda". A combination of documentary and stage performance, "My Trip" chronicles Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Lawrence Wright's exploration of modern terrorism.

According to the press release, "My Trip" explores the moral dilemmas Wright encountered while researching his bestselling book "The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11." It will shed light into fundamentalist Islam's rise to power, as well as Wright's struggle to maintain objectivity as a journalist in the wake of 9/11.

Inside the documentary, there will be Wright's interviews with people associated with Al-Qaeda and radical Islam movements such as Yassir al-Sirri, who killed a 12-year-old girl while trying to assassinate the Egyptian prime minister, and Ali Salem, a playwright who imagines the "kindergarten of hate" that schools Muslim youth.

Working closely to Wright to capture the moments is director Alex Gibney who won Best Documentay at the Academy Awards for his 2007 work "Taxi to the Dark Side". "My Trip" in fact has been made an official selection of 2010 Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year but it will only hit the small screen on Tuesday, September 7 at 9/8c.
