Venice Film Festival: Premieres of Natalie Portman's 'Black Swan' and Jessica Alba's 'Machete'

Portman was joined by Darren Aronofsky and Vincent Cassel at the world premiere, while Alba was sandwiched between Robert Rodriguez and Danny Trejo during the special screening.

AceShowbiz - This year's Venice International Film Festival has been officially kicked off on Wednesday, September 1 with the screening of "Black Swan". Marking the world premiere for the movie, the event was attended by lead actress Natalie Portman. Wearing a red gown, Portman was not alone as co-star Vincent Cassel and director Darren Aronofsky joined the special screening. Moreover, filmmaker Quentin Tarantino who serves as Jury President of the annual event took part at the premiere.

The first day of the 67th Venice Film Festival in Italy also saw the screening of "Machete". Jessica Alba, Danny Trejo as well as the man behind the film Robert Rodriguez opted matching black ensembles when hitting the red carpet.

"Black Swan", which is among 23 films vying for the Golden Lion that will be awarded September 11, is a supernatural thriller that follows a veteran ballerina named Nina who finds herself locked in a competitive situation with a rival dancer. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side with a recklessness that threatens to destroy her. The movie will open in selected U.S. theaters on December 1.

"Machete", in the meantime, is a story of a Mexican ex-Federal agent with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer and is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator. With the help of some friends, Machete braves the odds. This star-studded action thriller was first premiered on August 25 in Los Angeles and will entertain moviegoers in the nation starting September 3.
