Dwayne Johnson to Join 'Journey to the Center of the Earth' Sequel

If the deal is sealed, the actor who is also known as The Rock will follow Josh Hutcherson's Sean Anderson in his 'Journey to the Mysterious Island'.

Dwayne "" Johnson is going to embark on an unforgettable adventure. According to The Hollywood Reporter (THR), the former wrestler is in negotiations to star in "Journey to the Mysterious Island", which will be the follow-up to "", with a deal expected to close within this week.

Lead actor had a big role in drawing moviegoers to watch the first film, but he will not return to the sequel reportedly because he and New Line Cinema could not agree on start dates. Johnson, however, will not take over the role of Prof. Trevor Anderson that is ditched by Fraser.

In fact, the 38-year-old hunk is going to portray the boyfriend of Sean Anderson's mother, who is forced by the young boy "to bring on a trip to a mythical and monstrous island to find his missing grandfather." is expected to reprise his role as Sean.

"Journey to the Mysterious Island" has a script which is said loosely based on Jules Verne's "The Mysterious Island." Additionally, THR claims "three other characters will be introduced in the movie and cast during the next few weeks", while production is planned to start in late October in North Carolina and Hawaii.

This upcoming sci-fi fantasy movie will be shot and released in 3-D like its predecessor. Brad Peyton is on board to direct the film, and Beau Flynn, Tripp Vinson as well as Charlotte Huggins team up to produce it. The flick is projected to be fall 2011 release.

Dwayne Johnson is set to appear in "" which is going to be debuted in U.S. cinemas on November 24. The "" star is currently joining the production of "", which is targeted to arrive in theaters across the nation on June 10, 2011.
