After learning that the Haitian government commission in charge of the election rejects his candidacy, the star vows, 'I will be seeking a solution through legal channels.'

AceShowbiz - Wyclef Jean has revealed that he will not give up his Haitian presidential run. The hip-hop singer, whose candidacy was rejected by Haiti's elections board on Friday, August 20, vowed on Sunday that he will struggle to make the courts change their decision about disqualifying him from the race.
"After careful consideration and much soul-searching, I have made the decision to contest Haiti's board of election's pronouncement stating that I am ineligible to run for the presidency of the country," Jean said as quoted by The Wall Street Journal. "I will be seeking a solution through legal channels, and I urge my countrymen to be patient through this process."
Jean refused to put down his presidential run because he believed that he has a document "which shows everything is correct," Associated Press reported. The star and his aides "feel that what is going on here has everything to do with Haitian politics," telling the site, "They are trying to keep us out of the race."
The Haitian government commission in charge of the election released a list of the candidates on late Friday. The list, however, didn't include Jean's name on it. Although the board didn't cite a specific reason, the elimination was reportedly because Jean didn't meet residency requirements, which under Haitian law, a presidential candidate must have lived in the country for five consecutive years leading up to the election.
