Both actors are reportedly vying to portray Huey Calhoun, while director Oliver Stone has shown interest to make the big screen version of the Broadway show.

AceShowbiz - Zac Efron is seemingly not ready to hang his dancing shoes for good. The actor who has been struggling to ditch his "High School Musical" image reportedly wants to play Huey Calhoun, a lead role in "Memphis", should the Broadway musical is adapted into a feature film.

The 22-year-old actor is said to have seen the show twice with his latest visit on Tuesday, August 17. While watching the performance, he was accompanied by girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens and Adam Shankman, a judge on "So You Think You Can Dance" and the producer of Efron's films "Hairspray" and "17 Again", New York Post reports.

But Efron is not the only one who wants to step in the shoes of Chad Kimball, who takes the lead role on the stage show. Justin Timberlake is allegedly also circling the role, though there is still no concrete plan to make the big screen version.

However, "Memphis" film project could be coming in the future as Oliver Stone has been reported having meetings with "Memphis" writers Joe DiPietro and David Bryan, and the helmer allegedly mentions Timberlake as the potential depicter of Huey Calhoun.

A representative for the "Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps" director has confirmed Stone indeed met with Bryan and expressed interest in doing a film adaptation. Meanwhile, reps for both Efron and Timberlake have not commented on the report yet.

Zac Efron has some action movies like "Fire" and untitled Snabba Cash remake lined-up as his next starring vehicles. As for Justin Timberlake, he is waiting for the release of his drama flick "The Social Network" before later seen sharing screen with Mila Kunis in "Friends with Benefits (2012)".

"Memphis" grabbed eight nominations at recent Tony Awards and won four, including Best Musical.
