Gwen Stacy is said to be new love-interest character of Peter Parker in 'Spider-Man' reboot, and Roberts, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as well as Lilly Collins are auditioning for the movie.

AceShowbiz - In an effort to remake "Spider-Man" film franchise, filmmakers reportedly will not bring Mary Jane in untitled Spider-Man reboot. The love interest of Peter Parker who was portrayed by Kirsten Dunst in "Spider-Man" trilogy will be instead replaced by another character Gwen Stacy, The Hollywood Reporter (THR) reports. Stacy is Parker's other love interest in the comics and she has appeared in 2007 "Spider-Man 3", portrayed by Bryce Dallas Howard.
Along with the report of Parker's new love interest, the site claims to have learned several actresses who are auditioning for the upcoming film. However, it is not known whether they are up for the role of Stacy or other new characters since the script pages given to movie beauties do no list the character's name.
Those who are eying a role in the film include Emma Roberts ("Scream 4"), Mary Elizabeth Winstead ("Scott Pilgrim vs. the World"), Teresa Palmer ("The Sorcerer's Apprentice"), Lilly Collins ("The Blind Side"), Imogen Poots ("Fright Night") and Ophelia Lovibond ("Nowhere Boy"). There are reportedly other names on the list.
These select actresses, starting Thursday, August 19 until the weekend, are meeting with director Marc Webb and the new depicter of Spider-Man, Andrew Garfield. THR further notes, "These are not screentests, which usually involve some sort of dealmaking, but rather readings and meetings." It means this is still in early stage and another round of searching could take place if these actresses don't work out.
"Spider-Man" reboot will follow Peter Parker as a high school boy though some suggest the set may be moved to college due to Andrew Garfield's age (27). It is aimed to be a "more gritty, contemporary redo of the (movie) series." Shooting is scheduled to start in December this year for July 3, 2012 U.S. release.
