Unknown Actresses Among the Latest 'Girl with Dragon Tattoo' Contenders

Rooney Mara and Lea Seydoux are in the list which has been narrowed down to four, while Natalie Portman and Ellen Page are allegedly out of the running.

The competition to be the American version of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is still going on and the list reportedly has just undergone some changes. According to The Daily Beast, the role of Lisbeth Salander has been narrowed down to "four virtually unknown actresses."

Those who are still competing for the lead role include ("Blame"), Sarah Snook (""), ("") and ("" and ""). The first two have been previously linked to the role, while the last ones are just added to the contenders line-up.

Meanwhile, the likes of , , , and reportedly have been passed. The notable actresses are said out of the competition due to various reasons such as too old, too tall or too famous.

An agent claims the role that has been competed for will have a significant part in someone's acting career. "This is the biggest role for an actress in the last five or six years," the agent said as quoted by The Daily Beast. "If the movie works and the actress is good, it's a role they could be [Oscar] nominated for. And it's a big global footprint to get other jobs. It's a game changer."

Serving as a remake to a Swedish film of the same title, "" follows ruthless computer hacker Lisbeth Salander and disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist who are employed to find missing girl Harriet Vanger by her uncle. Earlier this week, has been confirmed to portray Blomkvist.

David Fincher is on board to serve behind the lens for the upcoming drama thriller with Steve Zaillian providing the script. Columbia Pictures eyes December 21, 2011 U.S. release for the upcoming movie.
