'Twilight' Star Cast in 'X-Men: First Class'
Movie

Edi Gathegi who plays vampire Laurent in the drama series will be seen as bi-racial mutant Darwin in the upcoming action sci-fi.

AceShowbiz - Bryan Singer did not manage to have Taylor Lautner joining "X-Men: First Class" but the film will still see a "Twilight" star among the cast line-up. Deadline Hollywood reports that Edi Gathegi who portrays evil bloodsucker Laurent in the vampire drama movie has landed a role in the sci-fi flick.

He is tapped to portray Darwin who, in the comic series, is described as the first bi-racial mutant who has the power of "reactive evolution," which allows him to physically adapt to any situation or environment. If he is plunged underwater, he'll grow gills. He'll gain night vision if the lights turn off and his skin becomes fire-retardant when burned.

James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender have been earlier cast as Charles Xavier and Magneto in "X-Men: First Class", which is slated for June 3, 2011 U.S. release. Later, Nicholas Hoult is confirmed to play Beast. Meanwhile, Matthew Vaughn is on board to direct the upcoming action sci-fi that will chart the epic beginning of the X-Men saga.

Edi Gathegi is best known for his recurring role of Dr. Jeffrey Cole in TV series "House M.D.". He also has a role in 2007 "Gone Baby Gone" before starring in "Twilight". He reprises his role as Laurent in the sequel "The Twilight Saga's New Moon". Recently, he has wrapped production for Paul Johansson's "Atlas Shrugged", an indie adaptation of Ayn Rand's classic novel, Deadline mentions.
