The lawsuit between the couple and News of the World has been settled and the tabloid agrees to publish an apology and pay legal fees, which will be donated to Jolie-Pitt Foundation.

AceShowbiz - Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are victorious in a legal battle against Britain's News of the World which made "false allegations about their relationship". The legal battle was settled on Thursday, July 22 with News of the World accepting that the allegations were "false and intrusive", BBC reported.

In addition to the admission of guilt, News of the World will also issue an apology for the report and agree to pay legal fees, Brad and Angelina's attorney Keith Schilling said in London's High Court. The undisclosed sum will be donated to Jolie-Pitt Foundation.

"When the News of the World failed to publicly retract the allegations and apologize for them - thereby leaving their readers in the dark as to the true position, the couple felt they had no alternative than to sue," Keith explained. "Today's victory marks the end of the litigation brought by Brad and Angelina."

Brad and Angelina filed the suit in January. Back at that time, Keith insisted, "We can confirm unequivocally... that the allegations published by the News of the World are false as well as intrusive." One evidence brought to the case was a statement from Sorrell Trope, who was identified in some media reports as the lawyer representing the couple.

In the statement, Sorrell said, "I have had no contact from them... Angelina Jolie and/or Brad Pitt. I have never met your... clients or had any involvement with either of them. The foregoing is true with respect to all other members of this firm."

News of the World, owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Group Newspapers, alleged that Brad and Angelina had visited a divorce lawyer in December 2009, and that the couple had reached an agreement regarding the division of their assets and custody arrangements.
