Director Adam McKay Confirms 'The Boys' Will Be R-Rated

Insisting that the big screen adaptation of the comic book series 'doesn't work unless it's R,' the filmmaker describes it as a 'current day 'Watchmen'.'

AceShowbiz - Adam McKay has given some hints of how he will present "The Boys" to moviegoers. Speaking to Collider, the 42-year-old who is set to direct the upcoming film has confirmed that it is aimed to be R-rated movie as he claims, "It doesn't work unless it's R." He has told his plan to Sony and fortunately the studio is up for his idea.

On the storyline, McKay refuses to go detailed but says that it looks at what a hero is and "places it in a time where monopolies have bought our country and you incorporate that as well." He then compares "The Boys" to "Watchmen", telling Collider that it is a "current day 'Watchmen'."

"The Boys" is based on comic book series written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Darick Robertson of the same title. The story will see a CIA squad known as The Boys and their adventures as they are given the mission to keep watch on the increasing numbers of superheroes, and, if necessary, intimidate or kill them. Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay pen the script for the film.
