Kelsey Grammer Dismisses Report He's Not Calling Kids on Father's Day

Following report suggesting his split from wife Camille Donatacci was sparked because he didn't call his kids on Father's Day, the actor states, 'I did call my kids that evening.'

AceShowbiz - Just days after announcing that he and former Playboy model wife Camille Donatacci split, Kelsey Grammer has been prompted to address rumor mentioning the separation was caused after he failed to call his kids on Father's Day, June 20. "Some comments have surfaced about Father's Day," the "Swing Vote" actor started.

"I don't know who is generating them but the truth is that I did call my kids that evening," Kelsey further wrote on his website. "Frankly, I was surprised that they did not call me in the morning but I was thousands of miles away and working that day so I didn't give it a second thought." Kelsey, at that time, had moved to New York City to star in a Broadway play "La Cage Aux Folles", while Camille was living in Los Angeles, along with their kids.

Kelsey later wrote, "I called them to see how they were doing as I do almost every night at around the same time, 11 P.M. my time, 8 P.M. their time, just before they go to bed." The "Middle Men" actor added, "Mason (8-year-old daughter) had been upset earlier that day because she was missing me. I spoke to her for some time and reassured her that I loved her and that I would be seeing her soon."

Beside clearing out about the Father's Day rumor, Kelsey also denied report that he was spotted getting cozy with a blonde at a New York City restaurant. He explained, "A rumor from the 'bottom of the barrel set' has surfaced about me and a dirty blond at a restaurant in NYC. It was April and we were seen smooching at Five Napkin Burger. The dirty blond was my daughter Spencer (from first marriage), who was visiting that entire month."

"I do take issue with the characterization that we were smooching but surely if that were the case then even I admit it might be newsworthy in some fashion," Kelsey quipped. On the possibility of dating other people, Kelsey claimed, "Certainly, the time will come when I do see another woman. I expect Camille to see other men. I hope people and the press will understand that we are both free to carry on with our lives."

Kelsey Grammer and Camille Donatacci wed in August 1997. The actor announced the split on July 1, while Camille filed for divorce in a Los Angeles court on the same day. The former model cites irreconcilable differences and seeks primary physical custody of Mason, and son, Jude, as well as child and spousal support.
