'Law and Order: SVU': Sharon Stone's Arc Begins

April 22, 2010 (7:20 am) GMT
'She asks Benson if she's ever slept with Stabler [and] Benson's like, 'What? He's married!' Her response is, 'Yeah... so?',' exec producer Neal Baer said about Stone's character.

Starting April 28, "" begins the story arc that involves Academy Award-winning actress . In four episodes, Stone will portray ADA Jo Marlowe who is a former cop and partner of Stabler before changing lane to become a prosecutor. The character is particularly interesting for she often says "the right wrong things".

When two sisters are killed in a fire, Detectives Olivia Benson and Eliot Stabler are confused about why they are called to investigate. They soon discover that Stabler's old partner, ADA Jo Marlowe, has been put on the case - despite the absence of a sex crime - because the two victims were so young, and that she has enlisted the duo to help.

However, as the investigation continues, Benson and Stabler find that the case might be more suited to their department than anyone originally assumed, and Stabler's interrogation tactics threaten to get the detectives into trouble.

Executive producer Neal Baer explained more about Marlowe-Stabler background, saying "She trained him when he was a rookie. He finds out she's the new ADA and goes, 'Oh, man'."

Stone herself has taken the role seriously as proven by her field research. "I went out on ride-arounds with individual women policemen who are now riding alone in cars, and their partner is alone in another car, out in some of the more difficult and dangerous communities in Los Angeles," she recalled, adding she followed around "a group of undercover drug cops" on duty.
