Chris Evans Signs On for 'The First Avenger: Captain America'

Though Marvel refuses to confirm the report, some sources say the deal points are being worked out with one point mentioning that the 'Push' actor will appear in at least three 'Captain America' pics.

AceShowbiz - The search is finally over. After a long casting process, Marvel Studios has dropped their choice to Chris Evans and now the actor has just accepted the offer to play the lead role in "The First Avenger: Captain America". The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter (THR) who got the scoop from their sources, but both Evans' representatives and the studio would not comment on the report.

Soon after, however, Variety affirmed THR's claim, indicating that the deal is official. Variety additionally mentioned that the contract includes a point in which the "Fantastic Four" hunk will appear in at least three "Captain America" movies.

If the report is indeed true, Evans will be seen wearing the star-spangled superhero suit for the first time in "The First Avenger: Captain America" before later reprising the role in "The Avengers", which will unite some Marvel's superheroes such as Iron Man, Thor and the Incredible Hulk. He will also likely make cameo appearances in other unannounced films, "to tie together the world Marvel has been creating starting with the first 'Iron Man'."

"The First Avenger: Captain America" revolves around Steve Rogers military service washout who volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America and tries to fit in his new image. Hugo Weaving is said in talks to be villainous Red Skull, while Keira Knightley, Alice Eve and Emily Blunt are reportedly under consideration to be the leading lady. Joe Johnston will direct with Kevin Feige serving as producer for the action movie, which eyes July 22, 2011 U.S. release.
