'Alice in Wonderland' Held Royal World Premiere in U.K.

Prince Charles and his wife came to the first screening of the fantasy film which almost did not happen due to the Odeon-Disney conflict.

AceShowbiz - "Alice in Wonderland" has London, U.K. as its first stop to hold a promotional appearance and screening. The so-called "royal world premiere" saw the attendance of not only celebrities from the entertainment world but also from the Royal Family. Prince Charles came to the event accompanied by his wife Camilla.

The Royal Highness was present because the event held at Odeon Leicester Square benefited The Prince's Foundation for Children & the Arts. The movie's lead actors such as Johnny Depp, Mia Wasikowska and Helena Bonham Carter had a chance to shake hands with the royal couple. Prince Charles chatted for a while with Christopher Lee and Paul Whitehouse while Camilla received a bouquet of flowers.

Beside the cast, director Tim Burton also came hand in hand with his wife Helena. He previously threatened to not showing up after Odeon cinema chain refused to screen the film in the local market. However Odeon has agreed to show the film in the circuit's U.K. theaters on the last minute as the organizers arranged for the premiere on Thursday, February 25.

Avril Lavigne who sings the movie's soundtrack also got the chance to shake the Prince's hand. The event additionally welcomed guests such as Eleanor Tomlinson, Gabriella Cilmi, Eleanor Gecks and Paloma Faith.

Slated to hit both U.K. and U.S. on March 5 in 3-D, Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland" is a magical and imaginative twist on some of the most beloved stories of all time. Johnny Depp stars as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska as 19-year-old Alice, who returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a young girl, reuniting with her childhood friends.
