The 'Case 39' actor is in talks to play Blackbeard, a legendary English pirate who piloted the ship Queen Anne's Revenge in 1700s.

AceShowbiz - Ian McShane may cause troubles during Johnny Depp's adventure in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides". According to The Hollywood Reporter, the English actor is currently in negotiations to star in the upcoming film, being offered a villainous role.

If the deal is sealed, McShane will be seen playing Captain Jack Sparrow's new nemesis, Blackbeard. The character, based on an actual legendary English pirate whose real name was Edward Teach, piloted the ship Queen Anne's Revenge back in 1700s.

Prior to McShane, Penelope Cruz has been reported in talks to join the cast for the next installment of "Pirates of the Caribbean" film. Her role has been kept under wraps but it is said that she will be Jack Sparrow's foil and equal in many ways.

Johnny Depp himself is set to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth movie, which reportedly will follow the eccentric pirate in a quest to find the Fountain of Youth. Rob Marshall has been tapped to direct "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides", which is expected to start shooting in Hawaii this summer for May 20, 2011 release date in the U.S.

Appearing in several movies including "Case 39" and "44 Inch Chest", Ian McShane is generally known for his roles in a number of TV series. He has starred in BBC "Lovejoy", HBO Western drama "Deadwood" and NBC "Kings". His latest project is 2010 "The Pillars of the Earth" in which he is cast as Waleran.
