'Hope for Haiti' Compilation Is the First Digital Album to Rule Hot 200

This star-studded charity effort also scores another record, becoming the biggest one-day album pre-order in iTunes history.

AceShowbiz - Like what was previously predicted, all-star "Hope for Haiti" album indeed enters at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 200 this week. It has been downloaded over 171,000 copies, becoming the first digital effort to reign the U.S. albums chart since its nearly 54-year history.

"Hope for Haiti" album features songs from the likes of Beyonce Knowles, Rihanna, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z among others. Outed in online stores on January 27, it becomes the biggest one-day album pre-order in iTunes history.

The compilation is released as part of "Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief" telethon. The benefit effort has raised funds over $60 million with its proceeds to be split to support Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF, United Nations World Food Programme, Yele Haiti Foundation and Clinton Bush Haiti Foundation.

In addition to the "Hope for Haiti" album, other newcomers on the chart are Spoon's "Transference" which debuts at No. 4 and "2010 Grammy Nominees" compilation which bows at No. 5. The other spots still belong to the likes of Lady GaGa, Taylor Swift, Susan Boyle, Black Eyed Peas and Alicia Keys.

As for next week, Billboard Hot 200 is estimated to see new champ. Led by Grammy-nominated single "I Run to You", Lady Antebellum's sophomore set "Need You Now" is predicted to sell around 325,000 copies by the week's end on January 31.
