AceShowbiz - The shortlist of this year's nominations at the Shockwaves NME Awards have been revealed on Monday, January 25 during a launch party at the London Tabernacle with a live performance from The Maccabees. Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian lead the pack with six nods each.
The two bands are up against each other for Best British Band, Best Live Band, Best Track, Best Video, Giving It Back Award and Best Album. While Kasabian receive their sixth nods in Best Album Artwork, Arctic Monkeys get their last gongs in Worst Album for their latest studio album "Humbug".
In the Worst Album, this band face off last year's "champ" Jonas Brothers as well as U2, Lady GaGa and Green Day. Despite having the chance to walk home with the Worst Album, they are still grateful for the nominations.
"It's a good thing knowing we're still up for these awards," member Alex Turner told The Daily Star. "Kasabian have said that there aren't any other proper rock bands apart from us and them. I don't necessarily agree completely but I know what they're saying. I think we're just co-existing nicely."
2010 Shockwaves NME Awards will take place at the O2 Academy Brixton on February 24. To vote for the winners, fans can log on to NME official site. In addition to honoring musicians, it also hands out awards to small and big screen projects. "True Blood" and "The Twilight Saga's New Moon" are nominated for Best TV show and Best Film respectively.
