The 'L Word' alumna is coming to the show as Matt's wife who reportedly has died in the hand of a vampire.

The first look of Mia Kirshner as the wife of Matt on "The Vampire Diaries" has been shared. The "24" actress is guest starring in an episode as Isobel, a sweet but dangerous wife of the Mystic Falls' history teacher who died in the hands of "a main character we already know".
"The Vampire Diaries" will return from its Winter hiatus on January 21 with the episode "Bloodlines". Allegedly, Kirshner's recurring appearance will begin in this episode and that Isobel will appear in several flashback scenes.
"Bloodlines" will focus on Stefan and Elena's trip to Georgia but it will also introduce a new character played by Malese Jow. "It's this lovely actress Malese Jow who's coming to the show," Steven R. McQueen aka Jeremy said. "She's very talented; she's very sweet; and I know the audience will fall in love with her, just like I secretly did a little bit."
