Official, Pharrell Williams Scoring Music for Steve Carell's 'Despicable Me'

This marks the very first time that Pharrell Williams, who is the member of The Neptunes and N.E.R.D, is involved in composing soundtracks for the big screen project.

AceShowbiz - Pharrell Williams is confirmed by Universal Pictures to have been signed on to making original music for their upcoming animated film "Despicable Me". This marks the first time The Neptunes and N.E.R.D's member will compose music for a film.

In taking the duty, Pharrell will be joined in the studio by Oscar-winning composers Hans Zimmer and Heitor Pereira. Of that matter, he said, "I love cartoons and animation, and I've never seen such incredible 3-D CGI. To score Despicable Me along with Hans and Heitor and write original songs for the film is a dream come true."

The title track of the film is composed by Pharrell along with MeOh!My. The snippet is featured at the end of the film's first teaser trailer, while the whole 4 minute version of the song has been in the web for a few months. In addition to that track, Pharrell has also begun to write the orchestral score as well as several other materials to be incorporated into the soundtrack album.

"Despicable Me" movie itself is due to be released in U.S. theaters on July 9. The likes of Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Will Arnett will be voicing the characters. The film centers its story on a deplorable man Gru who plans the biggest heist in the history of the world as he aims to steal the moon.
