AceShowbiz - Two powerful figures on Hollywood team up for a single project about Vikings. It has been unveiled that Mel Gibson will direct Leonardo DiCaprio in a drama which is not yet titled and is written by William Monahan. The scribe was responsible for the screenplays of "The Departed" and "Body of Lies", two movies that DiCaprio had starred in.

DiCaprio who reportedly has been fascinated by the Viking culture, will play one of them in the untitled Viking project. "This will be an awe-inspiring story, created with some of the industry's finest cinematic talent, and I am just over the moon to be making this film with Mel, Leo and Bill," producer Graham King said in a statement to Daily Variety.

There is no release date set yet but shooting will begin in Fall 2010. There has been no studio attached to distribute the movie yet but Gibson and King often make their films first before deciding on a distribution.

Recently, Mel Gibson is rumored working on another project which will take place in Mexico and start shooting in early 2010. Rumor has it, it will revolve around Spanish explorer Vasco Nunez de Balboa. As an actor, Gibson can be seen starring in Monahan-scripted thriller "Edge of Darkness" which will open wide in the U.S. on January 29.
