'Monsters, Inc. 2' May Not Be in Production

Despite report that Pete Docter would work on 'Monsters, Inc.' sequel after finishing 'Up', the helmer has claimed he is not currently producing 'Monsters, Inc. 2'.

AceShowbiz - Although there is wild rumor of "Monsters, Inc. 2" being in development, Pete Docter has hinted that the film is currently not in the works. In a recent interview with New York Magazine, the director of "Monsters, Inc." who has been attached to make the sequel claimed he is not producing the said project.

"I'm not working on [it]," Docter stated when asked whether or not he has been focusing on "Monsters, Inc. 2" after finishing "Up". Instead, the helmer said he has another project which has been kept under wraps. "I'm working on something else, but I cannot announce what it is," he said.

News that "Monsters, Inc. 2" has been developed was first fueled by Pete Docter when stating that the filmmakers behind "Monsters, Inc." have some thought about the possible sequel. Though he did not give any detail of the story, the helmer has been reported being given the go-ahead by the studio to make the film. Later, there was rumor that the studio has secretly talked to buyers in attendance at Licensing International Expo 2009 about the upcoming animation film.

As for "Monsters, Inc.", it received positive reviews and grossed over $525.4 million worldwide. The movie centers on the #1 scarer at Monstropolis' power company, James P. "Sulley" Sullivan (John Goodman) and his partner Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal), who get into trouble when a human toddler accidentally comes into their world. Having to avoid problems with the higher authorities, they now have to find a way home for the toddler.
