Producers of the 82nd Annual Academy Awards have announced on Tuesday, November 3 the pairing of the '30 Rock' star and the seasoned comedian for the hosting job.

AceShowbiz - After bringing music to the 2009 Oscars' stage with Hugh Jackman, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will have more than one host for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards. On Tuesday, November 3, the show's telecast producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman announced the designation of Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin as the co-hosts of the 2010 Oscars.
The hosting job will be Baldwin's first, but Martin's third. The latter has had the privileged of being the master of ceremony for the 73rd and 75th Academy Awards shows. Despite the fact that it will be Baldwin's first, it isn't his first stint at the awards show. The "30 Rock" star had once served as a presenter in 2003.
Of the match-up of the two actors, Shankman and Mechanic said, "We think the team of Steve and Alec are the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars." They furthermore added, "Steve will bring the experience of having hosted the show in the past and Alec will be a completely fresh personality for this event."
In the press release, Martin who will play Baldwin's rival for love in the forthcoming comedy "It's Complicated" said, "I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin." Baldwin chimed in, "I don't play the banjo but I'm thrilled to be hosting the Oscars - it's the opportunity of a lifetime."
The 2010 ceremony won't be the first time Oscars relies on two performers or more. In 1957, Jerry Lewis and Celeste Holm made an unlikely pairing when he hosted the main event in Hollywood and she became the master of ceremony for the New York affair. In 1987, Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn and Paul Hogan were the emcees.
The 82nd Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2010. Its gala ceremony is set to be aired live by ABC Television Network with Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman serving as producers. The Academy had previously announced that 2010 Oscars will see 10 nominees instead of the usual 5 for Best Picture category. Nominees for the prestigious award will be made public on February 2, 2010.
