Jude Law and Robert De Niro Possibly Cast in 'Thor'

'Valkyrie' actor Matthias Schweighofer insists that those two big names in Hollywood have joined the cast ensemble of the hammer-wielding superhero movie.

AceShowbiz - Words on the street are, Jude Law and Robert De Niro are going to be seen having a part in Marvel's "Thor". According to Ain't It Cool News, "Valkyrie" actor Matthias Schweighofer has tossed in the names of those two actors into the film's cast ensemble in a recent interview with the German edition of GQ.

Despite the claim that the two have joined the cast, it is still unclear what part each of them will play on the superhero story. Both De Niro and Law have worked together with director Kenneth Branagh previously. De Niro was directed by Branagh in "Frankenstein", while Law teamed up with the helmer for "Sleuth".

In addition to telling GQ about De Niro and Law's casting possibility, 28-year-old Schweighofer also uncovered that he himself is in the running for a role in the film. Still, AICN didn't elaborate more on whether or not the Manfred von Richthofen of "The Red Baron" mentioned what part he is aiming for.

"Thor" is an epic adventure that spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. The story centers on Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior, who is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans after his reckless actions reignite an ancient war. He later learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Chris Hemsworth in the starring role with Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston supporting. Jaimie Alexander is also brought in to play skilled Asgardian warrior Sif, and Colm Feore is expected to take on a villain whose identity remains a secret. Paramount Pictures is set to distribute it in U.S. theaters on May 20, 2011.
