ABC Gives Three Wednesday Comedies a Full Season

While 'The Middle', 'Cougar Town' and 'Modern Family' get the green light to proceed, their fellow Wednesday occupants 'Hank' and 'Eastwick' will have to wait a little longer.

Three new comedies that escape ABC's ax this fall are "", "" and "". On Thursday, October 8, the network gave the half-hour shows the full-season pick up they deserve after showing pretty good numbers in their first two episodes.

All three shows occupy the Wednesday night. "The Middle" which premiered on September 30 took the 8:30 slot and debuted with 8.71 million viewers. Its follow up, "Cougar Town" received a better opening on its September 23 pilot, taking in 11.28 million viewers. However, it was "Modern Family" which was the most well-received comedy of the three. Its pilot, also airing on September 23, managed to absorb more than 12 million viewers in the 9 - 9:30 hour.

One question remains regarding the fate of another half-hour that leads all the three shows, "". The series created by was not mentioned in the tweet that ABC used to announce the full season pick up. Compared to the other three, "Hank" fared much worse in both the rating and the critical response.

Nevertheless, there is also another one which fate is not yet determined. "" the one-hour show starting at 10 on Wednesdays is unfortunately also a low performer. From its 8.53 million viewers in the premiere, the number dropped to 6.62 million in the second episode.
