'Idol Gives Back' Returns in 'American Idol' Season 9

FOX and Executive Producer Simon Fuller proudly announce the come back of the charity show that will bring together Hollywood's biggest stars.

AceShowbiz - Recession and tough time in economy no longer stop "American Idol" to hold its charity program "Idol Gives Back". The Emmy Award-winning television event that was absent last season will be staged once again during the season 9's Top 7 announcement on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 8/7c.

"I am very pleased to announce that we will be doing our third Idol Gives Back on April 21, 2010," said Simon Fuller, Idol creator and CEO of 19 Entertainment. "This is our opportunity to reach out and support the people of America and around the world who need our compassion and generosity to improve or even save their lives. America will undoubtedly prove once again what a remarkable and generous nation it is. For American Idol to be able to facilitate this kind of initiative makes me very proud."

This year the focus will be put into the challenges children and families face. The charity organizations which will be affected include Children's Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children's U.S. Programs and the United Nations Foundation.

Held annually before being skipped this year, the event features celebrities including from the politic world coming either as a presenter to encourage people to donate or as a musical guest. "This year's special will feature performances and appearances by some of Hollywood's biggest stars - as well as a few surprises - live from the American Idol stage," read the press release.

The ninth season of "American Idol" returns January 2010 with Ellen DeGeneres in replacement of Paula Abdul.
