Chile's 'Dawson, Island 10', Philippines' 'Grandfather Is Dead' and Austria's 'For a Moment Freedom' are among the candidates for the foreign language Oscar nomination.

AceShowbiz - A number of feature films have been unraveled to be vying for a 2010 Oscars nomination. With the closing date of submissions for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards' foreign language category fast-approaching, Philippine, Austria, Chile, Venezuela and Bolivia are uncovered to have selected their candidate.
The Philippines will be represented by Soxie Topacio's dark comedy "Grandfather Is Dead (Ded na si Lolo)". The movie centers its story on one family's reaction to the sudden death of the patriarch. Austria brought forth "For a Moment Freedom", a movie about Iranian refugees and their journey to Austria by Iranian-Austrian filmmaker Arash T. Riahi.
Chile, Venezuela and Bolivia were fielding "Dawson, Isla 10", "Libertador morales, el justiciero" and "Southern Zone (Zona Sur)" respectively. Chosen to compete in Spain's Goya awards, "Dawson" is based on the autobiography of politician Sergio Bitar. "Libertador" follows a motorcyclist on a Robin Hood-style mission, and "Southern" revolves around a La Paz's upper-class family who copes with the economic downturn and big political changes in the country.
The closing date for submissions to the foreign language category is October 1. Nomination for the 82nd Academy Awards, itself, will be announced on February 2, 2010, while the live telecast of the gala ceremony by the ABC Television Network is scheduled for March 7, 2010. Back in June, the Academy had announced that 2010 Oscars will see 10 nominees instead of the usual 5 for Best Picture category.
