The dancer and choreographer credits "Dancing with the Stars" to have helped him coping with his split from fiancee Karina Smirnoff.

AceShowbiz - Newly single Maksim Chmerkovskiy tells Entertainment Tonight in an interview that he is moving on from his broken engagement with fellow "Dancing with the Stars" participant Karina Smirnoff. "It's life. You do your thing and then you move on," says the professional dancer and choreographer.

The 29-year-old then reveals how he copes with the heartbreak, crediting the dancing TV show to have helped shifting his focus of attention. "Thank God for this season because all my attention goes to Debi [Mazar]," he says of his celebrity partner on the show's upcoming season. "This is probably the most serious I've ever taken a season. In light of everything that's happened, this is what I want to focus all my attention on."

In separate interview, Karina shares with Entertainment Tonight that she isn't surprised with the media attention addressed to her and Maksim ever since news that they called off their engagement surfaced earlier this week. "It comes with the territory, being on the show that has become amazingly successful. Everything is in the public eye, but again, it is a private matter. It is a private relationship, and it should totally stay private," so she says.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff began dating in the summer of 2008 and announced their engagement on December 31 the same year. Both of them had been planning a June 2010 wedding when a representative for her confirmed on Tuesday, September 8 that the pair has called it quits.

Notwithstanding their split, Maksim and Karina are expected to reunite on the dance floor as they have been tapped to perform at the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 20.
