Warner Bros. has signed the British filmmaker to direct the adaptation of the DC Comics' property about an alien interstellar bounty hunter after he is finished with his latest action movie.

AceShowbiz - Known for his gangster movies, Guy Ritchie is making a huge leap to comic book adaptation with "Lobo". According to Variety, the director/writer/producer of "RocknRolla" has signed on to helm Warner Bros.' adaptation of the DC Comics' property which follows an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter.
The former husband of Madonna will tackle this project after he's done with his December-released "Sherlock Holmes". He is expected to bring the irreverent, gruff tone of past films like "Snatch" and "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" for the movie that is said to be strong on visual effects.
Lobo is a character originated in 1983 in "Omega Men" by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen. Having several comic incarnations, the character will be seen as "a seven-foot tall, blue-skinned, indestructible and heavily muscled anti-hero who drives a pimped out motorcycle" in the movie. Landing on Earth in search of four fugitives who are bent on wreaking havoc, he teams up with a small town teenage girl to stop the creatures.
The most recent script for this movie adaptation was written by Don Payne. A co-production between Silver Pictures and Weed Road, the movie will have Joel Silver, Akiva Goldsman and Andrew Rona as producers. Production is targeted to start early 2010. Warners is aiming for a PG-13 rating.
