The producers want 'to take on the challenge of living up to the groundbreaking drama of the original 'L Word' ' through the reality show.

AceShowbiz - Showtime is exploring the lesbian world in Los Angeles through a new reality show. The project is based on the network's series "The L Word" that ended its run earlier this year with the sixth season. Titled "The Real L Word: Los Angeles", the show has had nine episodes in order for a debut sometime next year.

Creator of "L Word" Ilene Chaiken takes responsibility as producer of this reality under production house Magical Elves. "Showtime has yet again come forward to continue with us this mission to entertain and enlighten and bring more 'L' to the world," Chaiken said.

Like "L Word", the series will follow six lesbians in Los Angeles as they go through daily life. "We love to tell authentic stories about complex characters and feel like this is an area that has yet to be explored in reality television," Jane Lipsitz from Magical Elves said. They still haven't found the cast yet, a factor which will determine a lot whether the show will be a go or not.

Chaiken actually wrote a spin-off to "L Word" called "The Farm" when the original show was nearing the end. However, Showtime decided not to pick it up.
