'Castlevania' Is More Than Just About the Creatures

Talking about how this video game adaptation is going to be like, producer Paul W.S. Anderson claims it will present vampire whip and traps.

AceShowbiz - Producer/co-writer Paul W.S. Anderson recently told MTV about what to expect from his upcoming "Castlevania". Though the adaptation of the 1980's Nintendo game is still likely to feature some characters from the original version, the filmmaker said that the movie is more than just about the creatures.

"One of the things with 'Castlevania' is it's not just about the creatures but the environment trying to get to you as well," Anderson claimed. He further admitted the movie will feature some of the original version details, including "the whip", the weapon which is used by leading character Simon Belmont, and the "creatures", which Belmont encounters on his way through Dracula's castle.

In the interview, Anderson also praised the work of James Wan in writing the script for "Castlevania", saying "James is doing a pass on the script to put himself into it with the tricks and the traps, which he is really good at." He continued to credit the "Saw" co-creator, stating "I think he is a terrific choice because a key part of 'Castlevania' is the intensity of being trapped within the confines of the castle, and he's shown with 'Saw' that he excels with intensity in confined spaces."

Moreover, Anderson revealed about the progress of the movie project, saying it is still in "pre-production". However, he is not "exactly sure when it's going to shoot." The helmer also still has no idea on the casting choices or whether the film will rely on CG effects or how close it will stick to the game, insisting "We're still working on it, so I don't want to preempt that. We're just not there yet."

Based on classic video game of the same name, "Castlevania" follows the adventure of a Transylvanian knight. Leading his men into a gothic castle to seek refuge from the Turkish army, the knight and his army soon discover the castle is controlled by vampire. The script sets up a generational clash between Vlad the Impaler and the Belmont family, a clan that unleashed the original vampire and battles to defeat Vlad. Directed by James Wan, the film is planned to be released in U.S. theaters in 2010.
