There is a chance the fifth episode where the band will perform is a celebration involving the engaged couple.

AceShowbiz - "Gossip Girl" is inviting more and more music acts to its show with the latest being Sonic Youth. Confirmed by EW, the rock band's appearance will be featured in the 5th episode where the attention will be given to engaged couple Rufus and Lily. Creator Stephanie Savage won't detail the circumstances but it is presumed that the band may play in their wedding. "Just draw your own conclusions," she said with a laugh.

On how she stumbled upon the idea having Sonic to perform, Savage said that vocalist Thurston Moore did a cut cover of Ramones' "Sheena is a Punk Rocker" with Be Your Own Pet's Jemina Pearl last year for Jenny's guerrilla fashion show scene. The talks kind of continued from there that they are now filming for the particular episode.

Somehow this is not the first time the show and the band are connected. Savage recalled the time she found out that there was some kind of crossover, saying "...last year when I was doing my regular Gossip Girl google search, it came up in some blog about a Sonic Youth show that Thurston was playing 'Psychic Hearts' and Gossip Girl was playing on a screen in the background."

She continued, "And I was like, 'Whaaaat? Oh my God. I hope they're not making fun of us! I hope it was a cool, edgy homage!' And it turned out that it was - tongue in cheek for sure, but definitely with love, and that they were fans of the show."

Sonic Youth will perform an acoustic version of their 1986 single "Starpower". In the second season, the show welcomed No Doubt who at that time were just reunited. They did a cover of Adam and the Ants' "Stand and Deliver" under the pseudonym of Snowed Out.

"Gossip Girl" season 3 premieres September 14 at the new time slot, 9/8c.
