It's Official: Bryan Singer to Direct and Produce 'Battlestar Galactica'
Movie

Following previous report that the 'Superman Returns' helmer was close to join the sci-fi movie project, Universal Pictures has confirmed his involvement as director as well as producer.

AceShowbiz - "Superman Returns" helmer Bryan Singer has come on board the "Battlestar Galactica" movie, according to Variety. A day after Hitfix reported that the filmmaker was close to sign a deal with Universal Pictures, the studio confirmed that he will take on directing as well as producing duties for the sci-fi film based on 1978 TV series of the same title.

Singer, who was said to be looking for $10 million paycheck for the film, has long eyed "Battlestar Galactica" project. In 2001, he planned to relaunch the sequel of the series, teaming up with executive producer Tom De Santo. However, the project was never released due to some similarities between the planned plot and 9/11 tragedy, which took place three months before shooting took place and delayed the production.

Joining Bryan Singer as "Battlestar Galactica" producer is Glen Larson, who created the original series. Serving as a complete re-imagining of the Larson's work, the film is said to center on the struggle of human civilization on 12 planets, decimated from an attack by intelligent robots known as Cylons, to find another place to live. Survivors are led by the starship Battlestar Galactica in order to find a mythic 13th planet named Earth. While there is still no script for the movie, Universal eyes a 2011 release for the film.
